VanVleet volunteers work distribution tables at Auburn High School

Rockford families will gather at Auburn High School on Sunday, November 23, for the VanVleet Family Foundation’s Annual Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway — a beloved community tradition that combines generosity, gratitude, and giving back.

This year’s event, which has been feeding local families since 2016, includes a new partner in the celebration. United Way of Rock River Valley (UWRRV) is joining the festivities with a special station where children will receive fall and holiday-themed books to take home. The goal: to inspire family reading time and share the joy of seasonal stories.

For United Way, the collaboration reflects its ongoing commitment to empowering families and creating a thriving community. “It’s more than just food or books,” said Jessica Iasparro, director of Community Impact at UWRRV. “It’s about connection, care, and celebrating the season together.”

The foundation, created by NBA star Fred VanVleet and his family, continues to grow its impact each year—working alongside community partners such as UWRRV to ensure families have the support and resources they need during the holidays and beyond.
