This Halloween season, United Way’s Mr. Dan and the Community Impact team joined the fun at several Trunk or Treat events across Winnebago County—spreading treats of a different kind: books!
From Durand, South Beloit and Roscoe to Rockton and Trinity, the team handed out more than 750 new Halloween-themed chapter books, along with 150 S.T.E.M.-themed Early Literacy Kits. Each giveaway sparked excitement for reading and learning among young children. By combining literacy with community fun, United Way aims to inspire a lifelong love of reading in children across Winnebago County—all while celebrating a festive night of costumes, candy, and community spirit.
These nights were full of sweet treats, spooky costumes—and the priceless gift of books.
