Rollin' Strong

"Nothing compares to the simple pleasure of riding a bike."
—John F. Kennedy

About Rollin' Strong

Almost 40 percent of urban youth report a mistrust of the police and legal system. Rollin' Strong engages middle school aged youth through bike repair. The 10-week program uses bike repairs as an opportunity for communication, guidance, and mentoring between participants and volunteers, which includes police officers and bicycle repair experts. The students learn how to diagnose a "tune-up" and fix bikes that are then sold back to the community. Rollin' Strong encourages community service and the youth are given the opportunity to take home the bike they repaired.
