United Way's Success By 6® school readiness initiative helps prepare children birth to age 6 develop the educational, social-emotional, and positive experiences necessary to enter kindergarten ready to succeed. Since the majority of brain development occurs between birth and age five, quality early learning and care programs have a profound impact on lifelong success and support cognitive, social, and emotional development.

The initiative encompasses five program that focus on increasing family engagement and child development, specifically pre-literacy skills. Materials are provided in English and Spanish. A volunteer advisory council of community-based business leaders, educators and early childhood advocates, leads these components of the initiative:



Born Learning Trail: Trails provide outdoor learning opportunities for parents and young children. Learn more >

Born Learning Kid Basics: Flashcard information engages a parent in well baby care and supportive parent engagement from birth through 2 years.

School Readiness Calendar: Calendar features family-oriented activities designed to teach the basic skills needed for pre-k children to enter school ready to learn. Learn more >

Page Turner Reading Program: In-school program focuses on encouraging family engagement, developing literacy skills in pre-k young children, and building a home library. Learn more >
