Purchasing school supplies for the new school year can be increasingly costly, especially for low-income families. According to the annual Huntington Bank Backpack Index, families with more than one child in elementary, middle or high school could expect to spend as much as $3,000 in school supplies and activity fees.

In response, 13WREX, in collaboration with United Way of Rock River Valley, Schnucks, 95.3 The Bull, and Rockford Register Star, organized a one-day school supply drive to support local school supply closets in Belvidere, Freeport, Harlem and Rockford school districts. The community responded by donating over $30,000 in school supplies during the "Stuff the Bus" event. Items were then distributed to local school supply closets to ensure supplies went to families that needed them the most.

Starting the school year equipped with the necessary tools helps both teachers and students remain focused on learning and gives students more confidence in their education.
