Giving Tuesday Thanks

(Rockford, Ill. - 12/03/2014) – Yesterday, millions around the world came together for the third annual #GivingTuesday, the Tuesday after Thanksgiving that inspires action around charitable giving. Within a 24-hour period, donors raised $1,000 for United Way of Rock River Valley's Strong Neighborhoods initiative, which directs new services and programs to two of the region's most challenged neighborhoods. United Way's social media channels and websites also posted significant increases in user activity.

The goal for #GivingTuesday was to inspire people to take action in creating positive change in our community through three suggested options:

  • make a one-time donation to United Way's Strong Neighborhoods initiative;
  • take the pledge to become a reader, tutor, or mentor, and help improve the education of adults and children in our area;
  • share why you give back and what you are doing to make our neighborhoods better, and upload your #PointOfU to social media.

The community responded with great results. United Way reached 100 percent of its goal of $1,000 for the Strong Neighborhoods initiative; website page views were up from last year for (27 percent) and (493 percent); Facebook post reaches increased from last year by 105 percent; and Twitter impressions hit a significant mark at 12,100.

Donations for #GivingTuesday is officially closed but the community can continue to give their time, treasure, or voice by visiting
