United Way I READ

Through this early-grade reading program, I READ, a partnership between United Way and The Literacy Council, matches reading volunteers with Kindergarten through third grade level students to help build literacy skills, give one-on-one attention, and promote a positive attitude around reading. Volunteers work with students each week during the school day and are encouraged to remain with their young readers through third grade.

I READ Program Reach:

  • Kindergarten thru third grade students at schools in Harlem, Meridian, Oregon, and Rockford school districts are matched with reading volunteers
  • Volunteers may partner with up to two students weekly for 30 minutes each during school hours at a school location
  • Each year, new volunteers are recruited, trained, and matched with incoming kindergarten students needing additional support as indicated by baseline data
