Much of the success of the annual United Way community campaign can be attributed to the special efforts of the hundreds of campaign volunteers --- individuals who work with their co-workers to convey the United Way message creatively and effectively to fellow employees.

The Innovators Award program is a way to showcase these creative efforts, and share them with others.

2013 Innovators Award Recipient

Rockford Public Schools District 205 / AFSCME 3210 and 692 / REA, RBMA, EIA and EOPA

RPS 205, AFSCME 3210 and 692, REA, RBMA, EIA, and EOPA kicked off the United Way campaign with their very own video produced in-house by REA Association Rep Carolyn Grunee. We played the video during the Campaign Kickoff event last September. Prior to the campaign, REA held a kickoff rally with their association reps who were the coordinators at each school. During the campaign, United Way was invited to present to principals and administrative staff.

REA implemented an incentive program to increase campaign activities within the following three areas:
Total Giving – Guilford High School raised the most, surpassing $6,000
Average Gift/Capita – Haskell Elementary School pledged an average gift of over $153.
Pledge Increase – Froberg Elementary School increased their pledges over last year by 325%

As a result, RPS 205 and their union members increased overall campaign pledge totals by 16% and reported an employee participation rate of 10%.
