Much of the success of the annual United Way community campaign can be attributed to the special efforts of the hundreds of campaign volunteers --- individuals who work with their co-workers to convey the United Way message creatively and effectively to fellow employees.

The Innovators Award program is a way to showcase these creative efforts, and share them with others.

2013 Innovators Award Recipient

The Bon-Ton Stores Rockford Distribution Center #590

The Bon-Ton Stores theme this year was Rustle Us Some Money for United Way. Following that theme, the committee created friendly competitions between work areas encouraging increases in goal percentages and participation rates. Progress was tracked using visual boards with donor names written on large hats and a corral full of money bags. Incentives, such as gift cards and electronics, silent auction baskets, and various food sales were used to spark enthusiasm and encourage participation. For their efforts, top areas were rewarded with a delicious build your own sundae party.

As a result, The Bon-Ton Stores increased campaign pledge totals by 10% and reported an employee participation rate of 51%.
