2008 Volunteers of the Year

Volunteers of the Year

Marissa Giannangeli, Becca’s Closet
Marissa’s role in Becca’s Closet has been imperative to its success. Marissa has been involved in Becca’s Closet almost from its inception. During her freshman year she was an active volunteer, assisting weekly with fittings, cleaning, sizing and sorting.  When Marissa became a sophomore she served as a co chair of Becca’s Youth advisory committee.  This year Marissa is the chair of our Becca’s Closet, and as such has an assortment of responsibilities.  Marissa is extremely involved in activities besides Becca’s Closet. In addition to being the chairperson for Becca’s, Marissa is an eager and responsible member of Auburn High School Kiwanis Key Club. Last year she participated in over 20 different Key Club projects and is on target to exceed that number.  She can always be counted on to volunteer for whatever is needed.  Marissa is also very involved in her church. She has volunteered over 100 hours for church activities. Marissa’s other activities include National Honor Society, participation in the class of 2009,  the “In Youth We Trust” council of the Community Foundation of Northern Illinois, and has volunteered over 42 hours to the Discovery Center Museum  She also works part time at Wonderland Book store.

Jim Baldwin, Spring Creek School
Dedicated, kind and caring are just a few words I would use to describe Mr. Baldwin.  He faithfully has tutored children in the classroom for the past 5 years.  During this time, he has touched and impacted many children’s lives.  Each week he comes to Spring Creek, he not only is a volunteer, but is an advocate for children!  He assists students in my room with their weekly spelling words.  He is patient and understanding with the children.  Because of him they are able to experience success on their tests.  The children look forward to the days Mr. Baldwin is here because he is giving and makes learning fun.  Mr. Baldwin is an essential piece of the learning puzzle.
