Pledge to become a reading mentor

Reading proficiency by fourth grade is the most important predictor of high school graduation and career success. In fact, studies prove that children without reading skills by end of third grade are four times less likely to graduate.+

You could be the difference. Take the pledge to change a student's life as a reading mentor. Through United Way's I READ program, kindergarten students are matched with reading mentors who prepare them to read proficiently by fourth grade. Entering its third year, United Way I READ is the area's largest children literacy mentoring program. Take action and provide a child with someone who believes in them.
