Workers Memorial Day

  • Wednesday, April 28, 2010, the unions of the AFL-CIO will observe Workers’ Memorial Day to remember the men and women of organized labor who have died in their chosen occupation.  More than three decades ago, Congress passed the Occupational Safety and Health Act, promising every worker the right to a safe job.  Unions and our allies have fought hard to make that promise a reality – winning protections that have saved hundreds of thousands of lives and prevented millions of workplace injuries.  Nonetheless, the toll of workplace injuries, illnesses, and deaths remains enormous. A ceremony will be held on Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at the E.J. "Zeke" Giorgi Building on Wyman Street in Rockford at 5:00 p.m. Please join us as we remember and honor the local workers who have died while in their chosen occupation.
