School-Readiness-PTRP

Success By 6® Page Turner Reading Program assists teachers in developing pre-literacy skills in pre-k students essential to school readiness and success in kindergarten. The program focuses on encouraging family engagement and instilling a passion for literacy in young children.

 

Program Reach

  • over 3,800 pre-k students in Winnebago County receive new, age-appropriate books each month in Spanish and English to build their own home library
  • parents/caregivers receive early childhood learning information and reading tips each month
  • parents/caregivers participate in child-parent literacy activities at their respective learning centers
  • educators lead theme-based classroom activities developed around each book title

Outcomes 2014-2015

  • 98.99% of four year old children understood that pictures and symbols have meaning and that print carries a message (base 85%)
  • 95% of four year old children understood that reading progresses from left to right and top to bottom (base 70%)
  • 92.86% of four year old children predicted what will happen next using pictures and content for guides (base 86%)

Measure: State of Illinois Early Childhood Learning Standards Assessment; results of four-year olds in partner schools; base reflects outcome data prior to program implementation

 

Books

A committee of early childhood education specialists select the book titles and develop teacher curriculum and parent pieces.
