Major Rockford area real estate offices join together in improving the quality of life in our region

Dickerson & Nieman and Gambino Realtors

(Rockford, Ill. - 12/17/2015) – Representatives from Dickerson & Nieman Realtors and Gambino Realtors presented a joint check yesterday in the amount of over $15,500 to United Way of Rock River Valley. Funds were raised through a friendly challenge between both offices to collectively raise employee contributions for United Way's annual community campaign. The check will support community impact through United Way's work.

"Supporting our community is something the agents and staff here at Dickerson & Nieman make a priority in their lives," says Frank Wehrstein, president and CEO of Dickerson & Nieman Realtors. "As real estate professionals, we work on deals together all the time. This was a wonderful way to encourage friendly support of a good cause and clearly the participation on both sides gave United Way a great contribution from two local companies."

As a result of the friendly challenge, the combined total from Dickerson & Nieman Realtors and Gambino Realtors represents an increase of about 250 percent over last year's combined campaign totals.

"We are pleased to be partnered with Dickerson and Nieman in supporting United Way through this friendly contest," says Jonathan Krause, president of Gambino Realtors. "United Way does so many greats things in so many areas of our community. As the Rockford community improves so does the joy of living in Rockford."

Krause and Wehrstein presented the check to Paul A. Logli, president/CEO of United Way of Rock River Valley during a check presentation at the United Way offices.

United Way urges Congress to support bipartisan tax package that strengthens working families

Advocate-Header

(Rockford, Ill. - 12/17/2015) – Late Tuesday night, Congressional leaders announced they had successfully negotiated a bipartisan tax package that aligns with United Way's work in reducing childhood poverty and building hope for families throughout our neighborhoods. The legislation makes permanent the expiring provisions of the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Child Tax Credit (CTC) that have been a major priority for United Way over the past year. Congress has a chance today to pass the bipartisan tax package. The House will vote on the package today; the Senate will vote on it tomorrow.

One of United Way's key investments in the areas of financial-stability is the volunteer tax assistance program through Goodwill of Northern Illinois. Last tax season, nearly 2,400 families and individuals filed a federal and state tax return for free through the program, resulting in over $880,000 Earned Income Tax Credits. At minimum, the tax package will ensure EITC remain at the same levels. For this upcoming tax season, in collaboration with Goodwill, United Way will offer free tax assistance directly to residents in Ellis Heights and Midtown neighborhoods through the Strong Neighborhoods Houses.
