(Rockford, Ill. - 12/11/2014) – Mt. Morris Kiwanis Club generously donated $500 in support of United Way of Ogle County's I READ program in Oregon Elementary School. I READ is an early-grade reading program that matches volunteer reading mentors with kindergarten students to help prepare them to read proficiently by fourth grade. Reading mentors are encouraged to follow their student through third grade.
Mt. Morris Kiwanis club member Lori Peterson presented the check to United Way's Ogle County Director Jennie Beckman. The donation provided backpacks containing learning items such as whiteboards, magnetic alphabet letters, books, pencils, crayons, and paper for each reading mentor. This is the first year of United Way's I READ program in Ogle County schools. The program is currently in its fourth year in Harlem and Rockford public schools. Mt. Morris Kiwanis club
